This Raku Pottery enterprise near Cape Town employs over 45 people (mostly women & single mothers) in an area of high unemployment, providing ongoing training, access to medical facilities and assistance with loans. They also mentor employees in life and financial skills. The items are handmade and hand painted before being fired at 950 degree celsius. They are then placed in smouldering sawdust which blackens the crazes and leads to slight imperfections in the glaze and providing the distinctive look of Raku pottery.
